Supported Living & Accommodation
Open Sky provides Supported Independent Living and temporary accommodation-related supports for eligible NDIS participants.
Our team works with participants, families, Support Coordinators and other professionals to understand support needs, living preferences and compatibility before services commence.
Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is support for people with higher support needs who require significant assistance or supervision throughout the day and overnight within their home.
SIL funding relates to the support provided within the home. It does not pay for the house itself, rent, groceries, utilities or other ordinary living expenses.
Depending on individual needs, SIL support may include:
- Personal care
- Meal preparation
- Household routines
- Medication support
- Building daily living skills
- Behaviour support plan implementation
- Supervision and personal safety
- Overnight support
- Support to maintain independence within the home

Short-Term Respite
Short-term respite provides eligible participants with disability-related support away from their usual care arrangements while their primary informal supports have a short break.
It may be provided in an individual or shared setting depending on the participant’s needs, preferences, funding and available options.
Our team can discuss the participant’s support requirements, accessibility, personal care needs, medication requirements and other relevant information before a stay is arranged.

Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA)
Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA) is temporary accommodation funding available to eligible NDIS participants in specific circumstances while they are waiting to move into their longer-term home.
For example, MTA may be considered where an eligible participant is:
- Waiting for their long-term disability accommodation to become available
- Waiting for approved home modifications to be completed
- Transitioning from hospital into appropriate long-term accommodation
MTA generally relates to the cost of temporary accommodation. Personal supports and ordinary living expenses such as food, internet and utilities are separate.
